In February, Hayek opened up to British GQ about the challenges she faced in Hollywood, particularly with being typecast into sexy roles despite her desire to pursue more comedic projects. “I was typecast for a long time,” she admitted. “My entire life I wanted to do comedy, but people wouldn’t give me those kinds of roles. I couldn’t land a part until I met Adam Sandler, who cast me in a comedy [2010’s Grown Ups], but I was already in my forties! They said, ‘You’re too sexy to be funny.’ In the ’90s, it was as if you weren’t allowed to be smart or funny if you were considered attractive.”
